What are preferences and how do I set them?

My preference view - You can select which resources you use most often in Cataloger's Desktop. These frequently used resources can be set as your personal preference view when you log into the system. When you log on for the first time and unless you change your preferences, the default full site view shows over 250 resources, many of which you may never use. When you search you may retrieve many more hits than you need. Setting your preferences also allows you to save bookmarks and annotations.

In this Quick Tip, designed and developed by Library Services' Cooperative and Instructional Programs Division for the Cataloging Distribution Service, you will learn how to set your personal preference view in 3-4 minutes. You may leave the tutorial at any time and return to Cataloger's Desktop by clicking on the Cataloger's Desktop banner at the top of your screen.

We will select the Descriptive Cataloging Manual, Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, and Library of Congress Rule Interpretations in this scenario.

After you log on, select either the Preferences tab or the My preferences hyperlink.
