Update Installation Procedures
Important Notice:
Please follow the instructions in the following sections (whichever are appropriate to your institution):

NOTE: These procedures only apply if you have previously installed 2004 Issue 4 and
are now installing 2005 Issue 1. If you doing an original installation of 2005 Issue 1, please follow the instructions
found in the Getting Started with Cataloger's Desktop booklet.
NOTE: PLEASE READ THE SPECIAL NOTICE "Cataloger's
Desktop 2004 Issue 4: Notice about CD version" BEFORE PROCEEDING FURTHER.

Standalone
Workstations; Infobases left on CD-ROM
- Insert the Cataloger's Desktop CD into your CD-ROM drive.
- Go to the LC Cataloging Tools program group and run Cataloger's Desktop normally.
It will take an extra minute or two for the program to start because your software is being updated.
Standalone
Workstations; Infobases copied off CD-ROM
- Insert the Cataloger's Desktop CD into your CD-ROM drive.
- Go to the LC Cataloging Tools program group and run Update Cataloger's Desktop.
It will take a few minutes for the program to finish because your software and infobases are being updated.
- It is only necessary to run Update Cataloger's Desktop once per issue immediately after replacing your CD-ROM.
Networked
Workstations; Infobases left on CD-ROM
- Insert the Cataloger's Desktop CD into a networked CD-ROM drive.
- Select the My Computer icon on your desktop; select the CD-ROM drive that holds your
Cataloger's Desktop CD; select Setup.exe.
- Answer each screen in turn. On the Choose Destination
Location dialog, click the Browse
button and select the same location on the networked drive that you used
for the 2005 Issue 1 workstation install.
IMPORTANT: You must use the same locations on the networked drives
as you used for 2004 Issue 4. Disregarding this instruction will prevent you
from successfully updating your product(s). After you have selected the
network install location, click the
Next > button.
- When you reach the Setup type dialog,
select Network Install and then click
the Next > button.
- 5. The following dialog, Select Components,
offers you the opportunity to choose where you would like to copy all of
the infobases (documents) onto your computer's
hard disk. Select Leave them on the CD-ROM and then click
the Next > button.
- 6. The following dialog, Network Information, will
display where your network infobases were installed from with 2005 Issue 1. Confirm that
this location is still correct, and then click the
Next > button.
- 7. Answer each screen in turn. When the installation program is complete,
you will see the dialog box pictured above. This portion of the network
installation will be done only once per product per issue.
At this point you have updated the workstation installation programs for Cataloger's Desktop.
- Go to one of the workstations on which these product were
previously installed. Open the LC Cataloging
Tools program group and run Cataloger's Desktop normally. (If you subscribe to
only one of these products, then run it from the workstation.) It will take an extra
minute or two for the program to start because your software is being updated.
- The remaining workstations can be opened at any time convenient
to you. It is advisable though the product be opened now
on each machine so that everyone's workstation software gets completely updated.
Networked
Workstations; Infobases copied off CD-ROM
- Insert the Cataloger's Desktop CD into a networked CD-ROM drive.
- Select the My Computer
icon on your desktop; select the CD-ROM drive that holds your Cataloger's
Desktop CD; select Setup.exe.
- Answer each screen in turn. On the Choose Destination
Location dialog, click the Browse
button and select the same location on the networked drive that you used
for the 2005 Issue 1 workstation install.
