LC Emergency Shutdown Impact
In the wake of the discovery of anthrax in the Capitol Hill complex and subsequent environmental testing, the Library of Congress buildings on Capitol Hill were closed from October 18, 2001 through October 24, 2001. As a result of this closure no bibliographic or authority cataloging records were created at LC during this time. This accounts for the recent number of null files in the CDS daily distribution services and the fewer records than normal within the weekly distribution services.
We regret any inconvenience this shutdown and subsequent lack of cataloging activity may have caused, but the Library is taking steps to prioritize the receipt and processing of the resulting backlogged materials. Subscribers can access the Library of Congress website (www.loc.gov) for up-to-date information re the status of LC activities.
