Ortelius Atlas. Abraham Ortelius Theatrvm orbis terrarvm. An important part of the Geography and Map Division holdings is its atlas collection, consisting of more than fifty-three thousand atlases. One of the most valuable components of the atlas collection is the numerous editions of the revolutionary mapbook Theatrum Orbis Terrarum by Abraham Ortelius (1527-1598), a Flemish scholar and geographer.
