Library of Congress Teacher's Institute
(No registration fees)
When: Wednesday, August 25, 2004; 8:30 a.m. -
4:00 p.m. or Saturday, October 2, 2004; 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Audience: Each session has space for 25 educators
from around the country. If both sessions fill up, additional sessions
may be added in September.
Purpose: Provide educators with an opportunity
to engage in discovery learning and to develop strategies to teach
about the struggle to end racial segregation in the United States.
The Institute will explore the beginnings of the fight for equal
education, the Supreme Court argument and the public's response
to it, and close with an overview of this profound decision's aftermath.
In addition, we will give the teachers a chance to explore the
online resources of the Library of Congress and how these resources
can be applied in their classrooms.
