The NAACP began broadcasting educational publicity over the radio in the 1930s. The NAACP produced this program in observance of its 51st anniversary on February 12, 1960. It features a group interview with NAACP Executive Secretary Roy Wilkins; Robert C. Weaver, Chairman of the Board; and Jackie Robinson, a Board member and co-chairman of the Life Membership Committee. The program was pre-taped as a public service program for local broadcast on February 12–14. The NAACP local branch was responsible for the sponsorship.

15th Annual NAACP Awards

In 1982 the NAACP celebrated the Fifteenth Annual Image Awards by televising the ceremony for the first time. Actor Robert Guillaume served as the Master of Ceremonies. The NAACP bestowed the second annual Image Hall of Fame Award on Lena Horne, "entertainer par excellence, pioneer and civil rights activist." Actress Cicely Tyson made the presentation. Horne was escorted on stage by NAACP Executive Director Benjamin Hooks. In accepting the award, Horne paid tribute to her grandmother Cora Calhoun Horne and "sister" singer Billie Holiday.
