Federal Library/Information Center of the Year

Purpose
To recognize and commend outstanding, innovative, and sustained achievements during Fiscal Year 2008 by a federal library or information center.

Description
The FLICC awards are given to both small library/information centers (with a staff of 10 or fewer federal and/or contract employees) and larger library/information centers (with a staff of 11 or more federal and/or contract employees). All nominations must be made on behalf of an entire library or information center (e.g., main or branch library or information center).

The award consists of a plaque and a certificate for the library/information center. FLICC will also cover the cost of travel for a representative from each of the libraries/information centers and a managing official from the parent institutions to attend the annual FLICC Forum held at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., where the awards will be presented. A separate plaque which recognizes each year's recipients will be displayed at the FLICC offices at the Library of Congress.

Eligibility
The recipient must be a federal library or information center. (Note: Award recipients from 2005, 2006 and 2007 are not eligible.)

Nomination Packet
Must be prepared by the staff or management of the library or information center, by a manager above the library, or by a customer/client. (Nominator must be a federal employee.)

Selection Criteria statements (covering achievements during Fiscal Year 2008, not to exceed one page per criterion; cite specific examples and any supporting quantifiable data from Fiscal Year 2008 only ):

  1. Mission support: the extent to which the library/information center assisted in fulfilling its legislative mandate or its organization's mission during Fiscal Year 2008. (Include brief statements of both the agency and the library/information center missions.)
  2. Creativity/Innovation in services for Fiscal Year 2008: such as bringing new services to users, or marketing existing services in an exceptional manner.
  3. Customer satisfaction: the extent to which the library/information center met the needs of its defined user group(s)in Fiscal Year 2008.
  4. For each area, include suporting, quantifiable data such as statistics, cost savings to the institution, program changes, projects completed, etc.

Supporting Materials (limited to three items)
Supporting materials are encouraged and may include testimonials, managerial endorsements, newspaper articles, promotional materials, etc., that relate to accomplishments in Fiscal Year 2008 .

Submission
Fax nomination packets to (202) 707-4825. All nominations must be faxed no later than April 20, 2009. If a nominator does not receive confirmation of the nomination by April 27, 2009, please contact Lizzie Daniels by phone at (202) 707-4813.

Selection Process
The FLICC Awards Working Group will receive and screen applications and submit a list of finalists to the FLICC Executive Board. The FLICC Executive Board will make the final selection and announce at the FLICC Forum in October 2008.
