Federal Library Technician of the Year

Purpose

To recognize and commend exceptional technical competency and flexibility under changing work conditions during Fiscal Year 2011 by a federal library technician.

Description

The award consists of a plaque and a certificate for the individual. FLICC will cover the cost of travel for the recipient and his/her supervisor to attend the annual FLICC Forum held at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., where the award will be presented. A separate plaque, which recognizes each year's recipients, will be displayed at the FLICC Offices at the Library of Congress.

Eligibility

The recipient must be a federal employee and a practicing paraprofessional/library technician in a federal library or information center; federal staff classified in professional series are not eligible for this award, but may be eligible for nomination as Federal Librarian of the Year. (Note: This is not intended to be a valedictory award. Award recipients from 2008, 2009 and 2010 are not eligible.)

Selection Criteria statements (covering achievements during Fiscal Year 2011, not to exceed one page per criterion; cite specific examples and any supporting quantifiable data from Fiscal Year 2011 only ):

      1. Commitment to service excellence in support of the mission of the library or information center. (Include brief statements of the library mission.)
      2. Exceptional technical competency demonstrated during Fiscal Year 2011 in one of the following: public services, technical services, information technology, or other library/information service areas.
      3. Flexibility-open to change, adapting work methods to changing conditions and dealing effectively with ambiguity.
      4. For each area, include suporting, quantifiable data such as statistics, cost savings to the institution, program changes, projects completed, etc.

    Supporting Materials (limited to three items)

    Supporting materials are encouraged and may include testimonials, managerial endorsements, newspaper articles, etc., that relate to accomplishments in Fiscal Year 2011.

    Submission
    All nominations must be faxed no later than Friday, January 13, 2012. If a nominator does not receive confirmation of the nomination by Friday, January 20, 2012, please contact Lizzie Daniels by phone at (202) 707-4813. Fax nominations to the Federal Library and Information Center Committee (FLICC) at (202) 707-4825. The FLICC Awards Working Group will receive and screen applications and submit a list of finalists to the FLICC Executive Board. The FLICC Executive Board will make the final selection and announce the winners at the FEDLINK Membership Meeting in the spring of 2012.
