Preservation Working Group

This ad hoc working group develops strategies for the long term preservation of and access to federal library resources by supporting and promoting adherence to standards and recommended practice in federal preservation and access activities, developing recommendations for digitization programs that ensure responsible stewardship of federal digital assets, sponsoring educational programs, and fostering cooperation with other national and regional preservation groups. It also oversees the FEDLINK preservation services contracts and works with the U.S. Government Printing Office to offer library binding contracts that meet the needs of federal libraries and information centers.

Issues and Answers in Digitization Series

CENDI, FADGI, and FLICC are co-sponsoring a series of programs and workshops on topics related to digitization.  The objective of the Issues and Answers in Digitization series is to educate and raise awareness within the federal library and information community about projects and resources and to network, share, and build a community of interest around digitization.  This series will provide programming relevant to the spectrum of information professionals, from those who are just starting to digitize, to those who have been doing it for a while, to those information professionals who are innovators in the field.  For more about the series and upcoming presentations, please visit http://www.cendi.gov/activities/events.html.

A video recording of the third program, "Before You Digitize - What Are the Legal Issues?" held on October 7, 2010,  is now available here. Links to slides for the program, "Audio: Digitizing for the Future" held on December 2, 2010 at the Library of Congress are available on the CENDI web site: http://www.cendi.gov/activities/12_02_2010_audio_digitizing.html.  You may view a recording captured by Elluminate Live here: https://sas.elluminate.com/p.jnlp?psid=2010-12-02.0656.M.974530C5C43ADEF93783F0443F2626.vcr&sid=2007050.

The latest program in the series was held on Monday, January 24, 2011, 1:30-3:30 pm, at the Library of Congress.  James Snyder of the Library of Congress National Audio Visual Conservation Center gave a presentation on the digitization of moving images, including video.   A link to the video-recording will be posted soon.

For information about upcoming programs in the Issues & Answers in Digitization series, please visit  http://www.cendi.gov/activities/events.html.  For information about previous programs, please visit http://www.cendi.gov/activities/index.html.
