Introduction to Preservation Practices – Held at the Library of Congress
Preservation Institute at the Library of Congress taught by LC Preservation Directorate staff.
These sessions will introduce you to:
- how to put into practice mission and vision statements
- developing and assigning resources, roles and responsibilities
- undertaking and evaluating risk assessments and surveys
- justifying prioritization and using cost-benefit analysis to develop preservation selection based on criteria of value, use and risk
- designing and implementing short and long-term planning
- developing COOPs and use training tools and drills for pest management, disaster mitigation, and disaster salvage and recovery
- planning exhibitions based on preservation principles
SESSIONS (Grouped in chronological sequence):
1. Preservation Management in Practice: mission and vision; resources, roles and responsibilities; risk assessments and surveys; prioritization and cost-benefit analysis based on value, use and risk; short and long-term planning; funders, clients and COOPs).
2. Preservation Controls in Practice: environmental risk evaluation including review of construction and furnishing ,materials, and emergency mitigation
