The FEDLINK FALL Membership Meeting is scheduled for October 28, 1998. The guest speaker has been confirmed. She is Joyce L. Ogburn, AUL for Information Resources and Systems, Old Dominion University Library. The topic is "Access vs. Ownership: The Librarian's Perspective on Integrating Electronic Materials into Library Operations." The topic of the October OCLC Users Council Meeting is "Digital Libraries: Looking at the Future of the Information Industry." FEDLINKs Delegate, Marcia Talley will give a report. 3. FEDLINK Customer Service Focus Group Report. Milton MeGee reported that letters have been mailed out to members nominating them to participate in Customer Service Focus Groups. Three dates in October have been set to hold the Focus Groups. 4. Planning for the Serials "Town Hall" Meeting. The FAC discussed plans for the upcoming "Town Hall" meeting with FEDLINK serials vendors. FAC members expressed issues from their own experiences with serials vendors, including: --no response to claims or inquiries. --vendor vs. publisher price quotes. --cumbersome process of setting up procedures with serials vendor. There was discussion about FEDLINKs role in troubleshooting with vendors when members have problems. Suggestion was made to include troubleshooting information into FEDLINKs packet of information that goes out to members. 5. FLICC/FEDLINK Update. Susan Tarr reported that there has only been about ten responses to the Information Technology Survey. We discussed options that would entice members to complete the survey. Suggestions included a drawing for a free FEDLINK training class, a FEDLINK event, or a credit deducted from a larger fee. A December 1998 deadline would be set for completing the survey. The new Chief of Library Contracts & Logistics Office at LC is Debra B.D. Murphy. Since there was not enough time left in FY98 to secure a new financial system, Tarr reported that the funds were used to purchase new videotaping equipment. The current quality of our video tapes is poor. The updated equipment includes new camera and editing equipment and movable stand. Tarr reported that October 30, 1998 is the date on the calendar for the first Federal General Counsel's Forum. The consensus of the FAC was that the topic should be about legal issues in copyright. 6. Committee Reports. No committee reports. 7. New Business. FEDLINK staff will give an Acquisitions Workshop as a pre-conference event at the Military Librarian's Workshop (MLW). After MLW members are given first priority, the Acquisitions Workshop will be open to everyone. Susan Tarr is scheduled to speak at the MLW. FAC voted to cancel the November meeting because it conflicts with the MLW. 8. Announcements. None. The meeting adjourned at 11:45 am.
