Repository: U.S. Marine Corps Archives and Special Collections

Collection Description (CRHP): The collection contains several interviews conducted for the book "Blacks in the Marine Corps" by Henry I. Shaw, Jr. and Ralph W. Donnely, published by the History and Museums Division of the U.S. Marine Corps in 1975. Transcripts exist for the following interviews but not recordings. Descriptions as follows:

1972 interviews with five former Marine who were among the first African Americans to enlist during World War II. The interviewees are Herman Darden, Obie Hall, Alex Johnson Jr.,
Robert Little, and Norman Sneed, all of whom were Montford Point Marines, the first African-Americans to serve in the United States Marine Corps.
