Colorado College Archives oral history project
Repository: Colorado College. Special Collections
Collection Description (CRHP): See interviews with Judge Raymond D. Jones (6 March 1980) and Evelyn Stroud Frazier (30 May 1980).
Jones describes his experience as one of a handful of black students at Colorado College in the 1960s, what happened when he was denied health care during civil rights work in the South, his frustration with discriminatory practices in Colorado Springs, and his experience as president of his fraternity and as vice-president of the CC student body.
Stroud-Frazier was one of the first black women to attend Colorado College, graduating in 1931. She describes in some detail a number of incidents involving racism and discrimination in Colorado Springs, including her inability to find work as a teacher after finishing her degree, and her family's efforts to gain access to the lake, the theater, and other public establishments.
