The Civil Rights History Project: Survey of Collections and Repositories
James Haskins collection
Repository: Boston University. Howard Gotlieb Archival Research Center
Collection Description (CRHP): James Haskins was an African American author who took it upon himself to chronicle the history of African Americans in a way that was not distorted. He wrote more than one hundred books and won awards for his work. Haskins himself was a participant in the civil rights movement, and there are audio cassettes of interviews of him in this collection. The collection includes research materials and manuscript drafts on a 'who's who' of prominent African Americans in the worlds of politics, sports, arts, music, entertainment, and civil rights. He published manuscripts on many of them. He also wrote books on subjects not related to African American life, and materials on these books are in this collection as well.
