The Civil Rights History Project: Survey of Collections and Repositories

Politics in Missouri oral history project, records

Repository: State Historical Society of Missouri

Collection Description (CRHP): A number of interviews deal with civil rights legislation and other relevant issues and efforts.

Collection Description (Extant): The Politics in Missouri Oral History Project features recordings of oral histories given by Missouri political leaders and activists. The interviews were taken beginning in 1996 and include sessions with Claire McCaskill, Emory Melton, and Thomas F. Eagleton, among many others. Mid- to late-twentieth century Missouri political history remains understudied, and the Society is working to increase understanding and promote awareness of this important field. Researchers, academics, students, current political activists, government officials, and the general public are encouraged to use these records to more fully define local and state political history as well as the significant role Missouri and Missourians have played in issues and movements at the national level.

This project supports the Society's longstanding commitment to preserve and provide access to Missouri's historical and cultural resources. The Society continually seeks interviews with former Missouri legislators, governors, statewide elected officials, aides, lobbyists, and various political participants.

Origin Info: The Politics in Missouri Oral History Project is conducted by the State Historical Society of Missouri and is funded by the Missouri General Assembly.
