Collection Description (Extant): Collection of about 150 topical songs relating to John F. Kennedy, 72 of which are related to the presidency and assassination of JFK, plus songs about the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy. Sources of the songs include commercial recordings as well as live performances and both published and unpublished material. Composers and performers include the Kingston Trio, Anthony Newley, Bob Dylan, Otis Spann, Mary Ross, Johnny Young, Eric Von Schmidt, Lightning Hopkins, Tom T. Hall, Tommy Cash, Mighty Sparrow, U. Utah Phillips, Tom Paxton, Dion Dimucci, The Byrds, Bob Coltman, Sleepy John Estes, Phil Ochs, Joe Bussard, John Stewart, Son House, Louisiana Red and others. The collection includes printed music and lyrics for a few songs, lyrics to Civil Rights movement songs, songs about Martin Luther King, Vietnam war songs, songs about the space program and John Glenn, the Peace Corps and other topics. Includes correspondence from Art Thieme, and clippings.
