Repository description (CRHP): This repository houses an oral history project conducted by Sister Rose Sevenich in the 1990s with clergy in the Diocese, including some active in the Civil Rights Movement. This includes clergy throughout northern Alabama.

Repository description (extant): The primary purpose of the Chancery staff is to serve the Bishop in matters of church administration. The Chancery office keeps marriage dispensation records up to date. It is responsible for gathering information for the Official Catholic Directory, Rome Report, Quinquennial Report, Parish Profiles and several annual reports.

It is responsible for recording, gathering, arranging and safeguarding the records and archives of the diocese. Beyond the canonical requirements of the office, the Chancery staff is responsible for overseeing property acquisition and sale, and monitoring diocesan building projects.

Repository Notes (CRHP): Access restrictions, particularly with the sound recordings, may apply due to lack of an archivist or collections manager.
