Johnston attacking the two Union corps on the south side of the river. Map indicates locations of 9 Mile Road and Old Williamsburg Road, the Richmond and York River Railroad, and Confederate defenses, chiefly felled trees. Edwin V. Sumner's route of advance to reinforce the Union position is also shown.
