- - No variants can be cited for this irregular and beautiful tune. Henry Reed once called it "Texas" (AFS 13035b08), but during this later performance he was certain that the title was "New Castle," after the county seat of nearby Craig County, Virginia. The Hollow Rock String Band learned the tune from Henry Reed under the title "Texas," and gave the tune some wider circulation in the old-time music revival in the later twentieth century.The discussion preceding Henry Reed's performance contains interesting comments on "Jawbones," "Shoes and Stockings," and Quince Dillion, as well as a discussion of Henry Reed's role as a participant in these tune-teaching sessions and reflections on how he recalls tunes.
