Jaime Laredo is internationally recognized as a solo violinist, chamber musician, and conductor. He has appeared with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Cleveland and Philadelphia Orchestras, the Chicago, Boston and London Symphonies, and the New York and Royal Philharmonics. He has performed under the direction of conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Eduardo Mata, Zubin Mehta, Eugene Ormandy, Leonard Slatkin, Leopold Stokowsky, and George Szell. A list of his duo-recital partners would include legendary performers such as Pablo Casals, Glenn Gould, Mstislav Rostropovich, Rudolf Serkin, Isaac Stern, and others. In addition, Laredo regularly plays in music capitals of the world as a member of the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio, which he formed in 1976 with his wife, cellist Sharon Robinson, and pianist Joseph Kalichstein.

Laredo's conducting career has included appearances with the Baltimore, Hartford, Houston, Montreal, New Jersey, Ottawa, Phoenix, San Francisco, Seattle, and Utah Symphonies, as well as a long-term association with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, which he has accompanied on European and U.S. tours. In addition, he enjoys a close relationship with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and the Orchestra of St. Luke's.

Laredo's extensive discography includes recordings of the complete Bach sonatas with pianist Glenn Gould; the Beethoven "Triple" Concerto with pianist Rudolf Serkin and cellist Leslie Parnas; the Brahms piano quartets with violinist Isaac Stern, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, and pianist Emanuel Ax; and more than forty additional discs on various labels. Some of these have won honors, for example a Grammy nomination and Award and a Deutsche Schallplatten Prize.

Laredo has taught at the Curtis Institute of Music since 1971 and was appointed to the faculty of Indiana University in 2005.

Born in Cochabamba, Bolivia, in 1941, Jaime Laredo took up the violin at the age of five, played his first recital when he was eight, and made his orchestral debut with the San Francisco Symphony at age eleven. His teachers included violinists Josef Gingold in Cleveland and Ivan Galamian at the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia, and conductor George Szell. In 1959, at the age of seventeen, he became the youngest performer to take first place in the Queen Elisabeth of Belgium Competition.
