Notes

  • -  Geraldine Johnson described Ila Patton's quilts as "not fancy, but very interesting and well made." They include utility crazy and strip quilts, as well as a recent Cathedral Window, which is a novelty construction popular in the 1970s. The variety of Mrs. Patton's quilts, her recollections of learning to quilt from her grandmother, and her primary interest in making quilts for family rather than to sell are some of the key elements brought out in this "very useful and informative" interview.
  • -  Transcription: GJ: Do you do any quilting now? / IP: No, I ain't for awhile. Several years. I just use blankets, I don't use quilts anymore. No way. They're a heap handier to wash and launder and have 'em, keep 'em cleaner than the quilts, I think. I just like 'em, they're softer and lighter to handle than the quilts, I think. I just like 'em they're softer and lighter to handle, and I like 'em better than I do the quilts. / GJ: So you don't really use quilts on your beds [no] very much anymore. / IP: No, not anymore. I use an electric blanket, and I don't need too much. / GJ: When did you stop using the quilts? / IP: Well, I use 'em on part of the beds, on company beds when they come, but for myself, I've not used 'em for several years, been I guess, ten or fifteen years. I just don't use 'em. I just use the electric blanket and you don't have to have much cover with 'em.
