In the late nineteenth century, Frederick Converse studied at Harvard University and later at the Akademie der Tonkunst in Munich. On returning to the USA, he became active in the musical life of Boston, teaching for a time at The New England Conservatory of Music and then at Harvard University. Converse was at the height of his career as a composer between 1907 and 1914.
