Russian-born composer, pianist and conductor Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873-1943) achieved fame during his lifetime for his lyrical and expressive works (including three symphonies, four piano concerti, several operas, dozens of solo piano works and solo songs, as well as choral and chamber works), influenced primarily by Russian Romanticism, as well as for his virtuosic skill as a pianist.
