The
American Treasures is an unprecedented permanent exhibition of the rarest, most
interesting or significant items relating to America's past, drawn from every
corner of the world's largest library. On display in the Jefferson Building Treasures
Gallery in Washington, D.C., the "Treasures" exhibition presents more than 200
items arranged in the manner of Thomas Jefferson's own library, the seed from
which the present collections grew: Memory (History); Reason (Philosophy, including
Law, Science and Geography); and Imagination (Fine Arts, including Architecture,
Music, Literature and Sports). These World Wide Web versions of the exhibition
will allow you to see many of these same "Treasures" and read about their significance
to our country's history.
