Israel: Nutritional Information on Sugar

(July 6, 2010) On June 28, 2010, the Knesset (Israel's Parliament) passed a law authorizing the Minister of Health to issue regulations requiring the labeling of nutritional information about sugars in pre-packaged food. The further information on sugar content, in addition to what is already required information on calories, proteins, starch, fat, and salt, was designed to enable consumers to make better-informed decisions on purchasing food and contribute to public health and reduction of obesity, with its long-term health implications in Israel. (Public Health (Food) (Amendment No. 4) Law 5770-2010, & bill of that law, (both last visited July 2, 2010).)
