Japan; Mexico: Economic Agreement Amended

(Mar. 6, 2012) During a recent visit to Japan, Mexico's Secretary of Economy, Bruno Ferrari, and his Japanese counterpart signed an amendment to the Economic Partnership Agreement between the two countries. The amendment changes certain rules of origin for the chemical, steel, and auto parts sectors, in order to facilitate access by these industries to materials not produced in their own regions. The amendment will strengthen the industrial compatibility between the two countries. Japan is Mexico's fourth largest trading partner, and over the life of the existing Agreement bilateral trade has increased by 60%.
