Mexico: Promulgation of Federal Law on Confiscation of Assets

(June 10, 2009) On May 29, 2009, the Federal Law on Confiscation of Assets was published in Mexico's official gazette. The statute regulates article 22 of the Mexican Constitution on the issue of confiscation of assets that have been the object or result of a crime as well as those that are held or used by perpetrators of organized crime; it also provides for procedures applicable to confiscating the assets. The Law enters into force 90 days after its official publication.
