NATIONAL AMBASSADOR FOR YOUNG PEOPLE'S LITERATURE
A Message from John Y. Cole, Director, Center for the Book
The Center for the Book is delighted to announce the appointment, by the Librarian of Congress, of noted children's book author Jon Scieszka as the first National Ambassador for Young People's Literature. A joint project of the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress and the Children's Book Council, one of the center's national reading promotion partners, the position of National Ambassador has been created to raise national awareness of the importance of young people's literature in the development of lifelong literacy and in the betterment of the lives of young people.
Schools, libraries, and other institutions interested in supporting the program and/or possibly hosting an appearance by the National Ambassador during the next two years should send an e-mail message to the Center for the Book at cfbook@loc.gov. We will be working with the Children's Book Council in developing the Ambassador's long-range schedule and will see that your request receives serious consideration.
