The 2nd IFLA Meeting of Experts on an International Cataloguing Code, will be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina 17-18 August 2004 at the Universidad de San Andrés (UdeSA) downtown offices located at: Avenida 25 de Mayo 586 on the 2nd floor; phone: (54 11) 4312-9497/9499.

To locate the meeting site click on the map issued by IFLA: http://www.ifla.org/IV/ifla70/plano.jpg on the left hand you will locate (in light blue) the following avenues: Ave. Leandro N. Alem and Ave. Corrientes and Ave. 9 de Julio and Ave. Córdoba. This forms a square. Reading from the bottom find Ave. Leandro N. Alem you will find that the first street above this is Ave. 25 de Mayo. The offices of UdeSA downtown are located in this square between Talcahuano and Lavalle streets. The nearest subway stop ("subte") is the Leandro N. Alem station on the B line. Use the Corrientes and 25 de Mayo exit which will put you about a block and a half from the meeting site. Registration:

There is no registration fee for this invitation only meeting. In order to have as much information for our final reports we are asking that each attendee fill in an information sheet that will be used for notification of future developments and may be used as an invitation list for future conferences in Latin America.

Lunch will be provided for attendees on both days of the meeting and a dinner courtesy of our corporate sponsors will also be provided on Tuesday August 18th (location to be announced).

Hotels:

The hotels listed on the IFLA web site and map with the closest proximity and reasonably priced include the hotels: Lancaster (23); Gran Hotel Orly (21); Hotel Waldorf (25); Hotel Argenta Tower (9); Park Elegance Kempinsky (17); Hotel Plaza San Martín (18), and Hotel Posta Carretas (19). Other recommenations include: Concorde Hotel; Hotel Promenade; Hotel Facón Grande, and Reconquista Plaza Hotel. The IFLA web site includes other hotels in the general area for your consideration.

Funding:

We are trying to locate potential funding agencies to help defray the cost of travel, etc. and will notify you of any possibilities when we receive news. Please be aware that an invitation and attendance at this meeting does not imply any legal obligations on the part of IFLA.

Visas:

If a visa is required, you should submit your visa application in good time. It is recommend that you do this at least twelve weeks prior to the conference. The process may take longer in certain countries, therefore you should contact your nearest Argentine Republic Embassy or Consulate on the appropriate timing of your application. Programme:

The programme includes several plenary sessions on key issues of bibliographic access, discussions on recommendations, and next steps. The working group meetings will focus on issues of personal names, corporate body names, seriality, uniform titles, and multi-volume/multiple part works in which several sub-themes will be highlighted and discussed with the expectation that the groups will present recommendations to the final plenary session. Approximately 60 invited participants are expected to actively work in groups to discuss these matters.

The role of the national representatives and representative for the rules used in each country will be to lead a discussion on these topics within that country prior to and following the meeting. The representatives are expected to present those viewpoints and recommendations during the working group sessions and to work towards global harmonization for the development of an international cataloging code.
