To increase the ability to share cataloguing information worldwide
by promoting standards for the content of bibliographic and authority
records used in library catalogues.
Objective for the 3rd meeting
To examine cataloguing codes currently used in the Arabic-speaking
Middle East to compare their similarities and differences withe
the 1961 Paris Principles; to review and possibly approve the 2003/2005
draft Statement of International Cataloguing Principles,
from the European and the Latin American/Caribbean regional meetings
of IME ICC; to see if our cataloging rules can be more similar;
and perhaps to suggest proposals for an International Cataloguing
Code.

This invitation only meeting is the third in a series
of regional meetings of cataloguing experts and rule makers, planned
by the IFLA Cataloguing Section.
The first meeting (for Europe) was held in Frankfurt,
Germany in July 2003 and was followed by the second meeting
(for Latin America/Caribbean) held in Buenos
Aires, Argentina in 2004. This 3rd meeting in Cario will be
followed by meetings for Asia to be held at the National Library
of Korea, Seoul,
Korea August 2006, and the final meeting in 2007 for Africa
in Pretoria, South Africa before the IFLA Conference.
