On June 24, the American Library Association's Library History Roundtable recognized John Cole, center, director of the Center for the Book, with a program titled "For Washington, D.C., the Nation & the World: Papers in Honor of John Y. Cole." Four of Cole's colleagues spoke about his work and current developments in four of his areas of interest: the Center for the Book, the history of the Library of Congress, international librarianship and the history of books and reading. Participants, from left, were Maurvene D. Williams, Library of Congress; Donald G. Davis Jr., University of Texas; and panel moderator Mary Niles Maack, UCLA. To Cole's left are Jonathan Rose, Drew University; and Jane Aiken, National Endowment for the Humanities. The program marked the 30th anniversary of both the Center for the Book and Cole's leadership of the center.
