Austrian Minister Discusses Freud Exhibition

Dr. Rudolf Scholten, Austrian federal minister of science, research and the arts, visited Dr. Billington on May 23 to discuss the Library's exhibition "Sigmund Freud: Conflict and Culture," scheduled to open on Sept. 23, 1996.

The exhibition, part of Austria's Millennium celebration, explores Freud's contributions to understanding the mind. It covers his establishment of a new therapeutic profession and his influence on 20th century thought.

During his visit, Dr. Scholten was shown original manuscripts from the Library's Freud Collections of over 80,000 items by Marvin Kranz, manuscript specialist. Dr. Scholten reaffirmed Austria's substantial financial contribution to the exhibition.

Margrit B. Krewson, German/Dutch area specialist, coordinated the visit.
