NLS Public Service Ads Win National Award

The National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS) was recently named recipient of a Certificate of Commendation from the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) in its 1995 Bronze Anvil Awards competitions.

NLS received the Bronze Anvil commendation for its national television public service announcements (PSA). The series of six different PSAs features a variety of NLS patrons and was designed to inform the public about the talking-book program, a free national library service providing recorded and braille books. The PSAs were produced in both English and Spanish.

There were 555 entries in 21 categories in the Bronze Anvil Awards competitions. Other winners included the Pepsi-Cola Co., US West, Pacific Telesis, Nestle Foods, Reebok and Tektronix Inc.

NLS has received several other national and international awards for these outreach products, including a first-place International Gold Screen Award and trophy from the National Association of Government Communicators earlier this year. In 1994 NLS was twice honored in the Mature Media competitions with a second-place Silver Award in both the radio and television categories of these public service announcements. Robert Fistick, head of the Publications and Media Section, coordinates production of NLS PSAs.
