The Library of Congress recently acquired the 11-volume Catalog of the Hebrew Collection of the Harvard College Library, edited by Charles Berlin and published by K.G. Sauer in 1995.
Divided into an Author/Title Index (vols. 1-7), a Subject Index (vols. 8-9), and an Imprint Index (vols. 10-11), the catalog includes some 112,000 romanized records representing virtually all of Har-vard's Hebraic holdings. In addition to nearly 105,000 records for monographs and serials, the catalog provides researchers with information on the Judaica Department's rich collections of sound recordings, videotapes and scores. Included among the entries are 8,300 records for microforms of monographs and serials.
Researchers will find especially useful records representing Harvard's holdings of Judeo- Spanish (under: Ladino Literature), Judeo-Persian and Judeo-Arabic materials. (Harvard's Yiddish holdings will be included in a three-volume catalog to be published separately.) A unique feature of this library catalog is the two-volume Imprint Index, which lists titles by place of publication, giving researchers an overview of the history of Hebrew printing in the various cities and towns where Jews lived and worked.
The Catalog of the Hebrew Collection of the Harvard College Library has been added to the Library's reference collections and may be consulted in the Hebraic Section, African and Middle Eastern Division, Room 128B, John Adams Building.
