Hoyniak Cited in American Libraries

Barbara Hoyniak

Barbara Hoyniak

Barbara Hoyniak, a visual materials cataloger in the Prints and Photographs Division, has been selected for her leadership and energy as one of 20 promising under-30 professional librarians by American Libraries (October 1998), in the article "Looking Ahead: 20 in their 20s: Young Professionals Talk about What it Means to Be a Librarian at the Turn of the Century."

Ms. Hoyniak was nominated in 1997 by her supervisor, Helena Zinkham, and during the interim American Libraries selected a cross section from the nominees, conducted interviews and wrote biographies of those selected. In her biography, Ms. Hoyniak, who catalogs a wide range of prints, drawings, posters and photographs in the Prints and Photographs Division and is an expert in automation, described why she decided to pursue a master's in library science at the University of Maryland (which she received in 1996), what she does at the Library and what she envisions for public libraries in the next century. Her current position at the Library supports the National Digital Library Program.
