Original NLS Patron Robert Qualls of Oklahoma Joins 102 Club
Robert Qualls is a testament to the power of a
lifelong pursuit of reading. Mr.
Qualls, who will be 102 in April 2005, has been a patron of the National Library
Service (NLS) for the Blind and Physically Handicapped since the service was first
established in 1931.
On January 27, 2005, NLS deputy director Michael Moodie traveled to the Oklahoma Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped to induct Qualls into the 102 Talking-Book Club as charter member. Qualls was presented with a certificate, a letter, and a pin in a ceremony in the librarys Flossie Harris Conference Room.
A resident of Enid, Oklahoma, Qualls is a prolific reader and remains actively engaged in his community. Qualls still reads several braille magazines and talking books a month when hes not tuning pianos, attending meetings of consumer organizations, or conversing with a statewide network of friends.
"I dont think I deserve a lot of this attention, but I sure am enjoying it," joked Qualls.
