Digital Talking Book Machine (DTBM) Inspection and Maintenance: Player Troubleshooting
How do I change the level of verbosity?
The verbosity of the player’s announcements may be modified.
When the player is in reduced verbosity configuration, the following messages are not spoken.
- The initial “forward” or “back” message in response to the user pressing the Rewind or Fast Forward button (for both players).
- The tone, volume, and speed up and down messages in response to users pressing those buttons while the book is playing.
Note: it is only a change in behavior of the Standard player; this is the default behavior of the Advanced player.
- With the Standard player, unless you change the level of verbosity, you hear “Volume Up” with each press of the Volume Up button.
- With the Advanced player “Volume Up” just occurs.
Procedure to configure the player for reduced verbosity:
- Make sure the player is in Key Describer mode (cartridge or USB device not inserted).
- Press and hold the Fast Forward button and the Speed Down button simultaneously for 2 seconds.
- The message “Reduced verbosity” confirms the operation has been successfully performed.
Procedure to return the player to normal verbosity:
- Make sure the player is in Key Describer mode (cartridge or USB device not inserted).
- Press and hold the Fast Forward button and the Speed Up button simultaneously for 2 seconds.
- The message “Normal verbosity” confirms the operation has been successfully performed.
