NLS will use CMLS to track which patrons are assigned standard digital talking-book players (DS1) and advanced digital players (DA1). Beginning July 1, 2008, disc players and combination machines will be tracked by the BPHICS database and the CMLS database will only track digital players.
NLS is requesting that libraries update the CMLS database field names. Fields
currently used for
equipment code 2 "Disc Player (40)" and equipment code 3 "Combo
Machine (41)" will be redesignated
for standard and advanced digital players respectively.
To update the fields, select the "B-Blanking Out" option from the
drop-down box for equipment code 2
"Disc Player (40)" and equipment code 3 "Combo Machine (41)" fields
so they will appear empty. The
CMLS contractor will update the database once the fields are empty. The "B-Blanking
Out" option must
be selected so that the automated transaction will be accepted in the CMLS
database. Library staff may
change these fields individually or work with their system vendor to determine
if this can be done as a
batch process. If batch processing is feasible, contact Linda Cloutier at
Data Management,
lcloutier@datamanagement.com, for assistance. Please complete the update
by June 30, 2008.
Consult the CMLS Operations Manual on WebNet, Section 3.1.3.4 Equipment Codes or see the glossary page for further definition of the Equipment Code(s) Element 11.
