Print shows Stephen Decatur, head-and-shoulders portrait, facing left, wearing uniform, with emblems of his naval service. Stephen Decatur won acclaim as a lieutenant during the war with Tripoli. As a captain during the War of 1812, he captured the British frigate Macedonian, but remained blockaded in New York for most of the war. He died shortly after a duel with James Barron in Bladensburg, Maryland on March 22, 1820. |
