Guests included mostly national leaders, members of Congress, government officials, and ambassadors. The program featured a debate between guests on the opposing sides of an issue and included questions from a panel of journalists and sometimes the audience. Topics of "Big issue" included the Korean War, economic policy, civil rights, juvenile delinquency, and civil defense. Also includes photographs of special programs moderated by Lawrence Spivak: "Election '56," "Is revolution in the U.S.S.R. possible or impossible," a program for Northwestern University alumni, and a show on the Pentagon Papers.   • "Big issue" was a public affairs television program produced and moderated by Lawrence Spivak. Other moderators included Martha Rountree, Ned Brooks and Ruth Jackson. The program ran from April 1953 to January 1954 on the Du Mont Television Network and from July 1957 to June 1958 on the National Broadcasting Company (NBC).
