Slated to air nationwide beginning in November 2007, the "Concerts from the Library of Congress" radio series is a return to the Library’s distinguished radio history of more than six decades. From the opening concerts in the Coolidge Auditorium in 1925, the Library was a pioneering force in classical music broadcasting. For this new series, the Library of Congress Music Division, WETA-FM, and CD Syndications are production partners, creating 13 one-hour programs showcasing stellar performances recorded in the Library's Coolidge Auditorium. Accompanying the concerts are companion Web pages offering a glimpse of the Music Division’s treasures—more than 22 million individual items, the world’s largest music archives.
Conductor, composer and radio personality Bill McGlaughlin is a master communicator, known for creating the Peabody-Award winning program "Saint Paul Sunday," and WFMT’s daily national show "Exploring Music with Bill McGlaughlin." He has produced over 70 recordings, including a 1994 Grammy-winning recording of the Mozart and Beethoven wind quintets with Daniel Barenboim and members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
