Manuscripts/Mixed Material July 17, 1941, letter from Alan Lomax to John Work
July 17, 1941
Mr. John Work
My dear Doctor Work:
I am greatly disappointed not to have heard from you in regard to the recording project which we discussed a short time ago. I have written to President Jones about the use of the car and I should like to help you initiate further recording in Nashville. However, I still think our sound-engineer should have the opportunity to audition the records here in the Library and make recommendations for repair of the equipment.
If repairing the equipment seems completely impractical, send the records along anyway, because the sound-truck will be coming through Nashville about the 25th or 26th of this month on the way to the Tennessee Valley. We can stop then and give the machine a whirl and start you off on your field trip.
I cannot act officially until I have some expression of interest and some sketch of your plans here in writing. May I hope to hear from you at the earliest possible date.
