Ellison Collection Expanded and Access Restrictions Expired
As of December 15, 2010, access to the Ralph Ellison Papers is unrestricted, and permission of the literary executor is no longer required for research use. One copy may be made of items needed for personal use of the scholar. Permission to publish any portion of writings by Ralph or Fanny Ellison must be secured from the Ralph and Fanny Ellison Foundation through the literary executor. An addition to the Ellison Papers, processed in 2010, consists of 83 containers and includes family papers, especially on Fanny Ellison's careers, correspondence, and organizational reports. Writings include drafts for Ellison's classic novel Invisible Man, his second unfinished novel centering on the character of Alonzo Hickman, and his unpublished memoirs.
