Fifth in the series, Pacific Studies, this publication is designed as a resource volume covering the region, which is defined broadly to include all countries around the rim of the Pacific Ocean as well as all Pacific Islands. As such, it includes three sections. the first shows maps of the Asia-Pacific region, including both historical and current maps covering such topics as European expansion into Asia, international telecommunications, tourism, migration, trade flows, and multinational company penetration. The second section is a country by country digest which presents, for each country covered, a brief historical background and charts showing current demographic, economic, and social indicators, followed by suggestions for further reading. The third section is devoted to providing the text of key documents reflecting contemporary Asia-Pacific relations, as well as a selection of documents offering some insight into the historical background of the region.
