This site provides bulk download of IRS filings of exempt organizations from 2002 to previous year.

Charitable and Exempt Organizations Statistics (IRS)

Provides Statistics of Income studies relating to the tax-exempt sector.

Foundation Stats External Link

Provides searchable statistics on nonprofit organizations and grants from the Foundation Center. Foundation Directory Online Professional database available to subscribers there is also an Interactive map External Link which shows statistics on spending on direct grants by US grant makers to Non-US recipients, number of grants and number of recipients in each country.

National Center for Charitable Statistics. Urban Institute External Link

NCCS is a national clearinghouse for data on the nonprofit organizations and their activities. NCCS works closely with the IRS and other government agencies, private sector service organizations, and the scholarly community. NCCS builds compatible national, state, and regional databases and develops uniform standards for reporting on the activities of charitable organizations.

National Taxonomy of Exempt Entities. NCCS External Link

The National Taxonomy of Exempt Entities (NTEE) system is used by the IRS and NCCS to classify nonprofit organizations. A taxonomy for philanthropy by the Foundation Center based on the National Taxonomy of Exempt Entities.

Publicly Available Database Software from Nonprofit Organizations External Link

A list of database-related software packages available from non-profit organizations free of charge. Publication of Special Interest Group on Management of Data of the Association of Computing Machinery.

Research Data on the Nonprofit Sector. Bureau of Labor Statistics

This newly developed data on employment, wages and establishment provided by BLS covers only a portion of the nonprofit sector—those that receive 501(c)3 classification. The BLS website provides downloadable data sets, the statistical methodology and encourages feedback. They are not yet an official published series of BLS data.

Tax-exempt and Government Entities Division. Internal Revenue Service

Provides Statistical Information About Exempt Organizations with a link to data sets mentioned separately in this research guide and an A-Z index for nonprofit organizations to help you navigate the IRS nonprofit information.
