Address/Telephone Directories from Hungary at the Library of Congress

This index describes the Library of Congress' holdings of telephone directories from Hungary as of September 2009. This is the sole finding aid for these directories, as the Library does not catalog general telephone books.

The index is divided into two geographical sections: Budapest and countrywide/local. The latter is arranged alphabetically by city or region, then chronologically. The type of directory is indicated by the words "Res." (residential), "Org." (organizational, which lists businesses, institutions, and government offices), or "Both." The "Notes" field provides additional information, such as the number of volumes, whether the volume is a supplement to another volume, and whether the volume calls itself a "Yellow Pages." Note that counties and other localities are often combined into one book; use your browser's search feature to find a particular place.

Recent copies of these directories are held on Deck 46 in open stacks, adjacent to the Main Reading Room. Older copies are held in the general collections and may be ordered in the Main Reading Room.
