    Note on cover of package containing Calhoun letter was handwritten note: " Mr Calhoun's Letter on the projected Change of Presidential Election in S. Carolina. Consitution of S.C. and its principle of compromise. General Ticket. Numerical and Concurrent Majority. Democratic Absolutism. President in Politics, not only in Law. The whole seems to be utterly inconclusive."

    In English. Journal containing various hand written pages of notes. Also many drawings of people and animals by Lieber. Letter from Amelia Lieber Stearus. Notes on bill payment, laws, statutes, sketches. The name "Guido Norman Lieber" is written dozens of times in the journal. Spine of black box containing journal says "NOTEBOOK OF GUIDO NORMAN LIEBER WITH NOTES ON PARKER. Parson and Washburn."

Letter from Edward McPherson, date unclear [November 20, 1877?], Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, to Francis Lieber. McPherson writes that he is gathering material for a second volume.
