The primary purpose of this map was to provide extensive soundings at the entry to Lake Nicaragua at the juncture of Río San Juan and Río Frío. Map was prepared by engineers associated with the Nicaragua Canal Construction Company.

This is an outline map depicting the Pacific Coast of Nicaragua from the Bay of Fonseca to the boundary of Managua Department including Lake Managua. Map shows towns, Lake Managua, hachured relief of selected elevations, and the volcanic chain of the Plain of León. Ephraim Squier was a mid-19th century American entrepreneur, journalist, diplomat, archeologist, and scholar active in Central America and Peru.

This cross section map of Nicaragua provides selected elevations from the Pacific Ocean to Lake Nicaragua. This map was based on the work of Don Manuel Galisteo who was commissioned by the Spanish Government in 1781 to survey the distance from the Pacific Ocean to Lake Nicaragua in preparation for the digging of an interoceanic canal. Squier used Galisteo's measurements as interpreted by Thompson in his Narrative of an Official Visit to Guatemala From Mexico (London, 1829), p. 512. Ephraim Squier was a mid-19th century American entrepreneur, journalist, diplomat, archeologist, and scholar active in Central America and Peru.

This British chart of the mouth of the San Juan River includes coastline, coastal features, extensive soundings, navigational hazards, characteristics of the water bottom, anchorages, streams, river currents, and a settlement. This copy was prepared from the original in the British Admiralty in 1897 and is possibly related to boundary questions between Nicaragua and Costa Rica. The map contains a manuscript certification of authenticity from the British Foreign Ministry and seems to have been prepared for the government of Costa Rica.

Inset cross sections (2): "Table Showing the comparative Heights of the Mountains of Central America." and "Volcanic Chain of the Marabios, on the Plain of Leon.".

The map of the Tipitapa River from Lake Managua to Lake Nicaragua includes the river bed, a settlement, a landing, an individual land holder, a trail, and pictorial representation of vegetation. With the map is a cross section of the depths of segments of the river. The well-executed inset showing the comparative heights of mountains in Central America provides graphic representation of peaks and volcanos grouped by country throughout Central America. The other inset provides a clear depiction of the heights of the volcanic chain along the Plain of León extending from north to south. The map was reproduced in Squier's Nicaragua (New York, 1852). Ephraim Squier was a mid-19th century American entrepreneur, journalist, diplomat, archeologist, and scholar active in Central America and Peru.

This map of the San Juan River from Lake Nicaragua to the Caribbean coast includes streams, other bodies of water, hachured relief of specific elevations, fortifications, and a settlement. Annotations on the map indicate border controversies: "Machuca, the present pretended Western limit of the so-called Britanico-Musquito Kingdom" and "The pretended limits of the so-called Britanico-Musquito Kingdom in 1848". Placement of notes indicates westward territorial designs by the British. Printed version of map appeared in House Executive Document #75, 31st Congress, 1st session, 1850.

This map of Lakes Nicaragua and Managua was copied by L.M. Haupt of Rivas, Nicaragua in 1898 from the 1863 Sonnernstern map. The map shows coastlines, coastal features, cities and towns, pictorial representation of selected relief, and a projected canal route from Lake Nicaragua to the Pacific coast at Brito. Map is oriented with northwest at top.

This 1755 map was copied by Linares at the school from the 1746 original and is part of the G&M Division's collection from that school purchased from Maggs Brothers, London.

Miller, U.S.N. 1872", "XVI, Passmore and Climie 1884", "XVII, Ensign W. J. Maxwell, U.S.N. 1888", "XVIII, Nicaragua Canal Board 1895", "XVIII, Nicaragua Canal Board 1895" (variant data). Each map includes coastline, coastal features, soundings, fathom markers, and Greytown. Maps numbered XVIII also include proposed starting points for the Nicaragua Canal.
