Research Center Geography and Map Reading Room

Support the Division

Geography and Map holds the largest public cartographic collection in the world and is a gateway for discovery that reveals the stories of our past, present, and future.

Make your gift today and join the Philip Lee Phillips Map Society, a community of map enthusiasts who help develop, enhance, preserve, and promote these unparalleled collections.

Your tax-deductible contribution helps reach more people and increase resources that engage, inspire, and inform those who explore the world through maps.

Your contributions support the Geography and Map Division’s efforts to:

  • Acquire rare and unique maps not currently part of the collections
  • Stimulate interest in the Library’s cartographic and geographic collections
  • Support fellowships, outreach, education, and exhibition programs

With a donation of $50 or more, you also become a Friend of the Library of Congress and have additional opportunities to see, experience and learn more about the Library as a whole and the collections first hand.

The Philip Lee Phillips Map Society

The Philip Lee Phillips Society is a dedicated group of donors and friends that support the mission of the Geography and Map Division to reach all people and increase resources that inspire, educate, and excite those who explore the largest collection of maps in the world.

The Society is named in honor of Philip Lee Phillips (1857-1924), the first Superintendent of Maps when the Hall of Maps and Charts was established in 1897.
