Currents Events in Haiti

This pathfinder includes links to news sites in or concerning Haiti that provide current information. It provides only a brief view of what is available on the Internet. Note also that some of the sites may present unverified news reports. On May 22, 2002, The Hispanic Division presented a symposium that demonstrated the reverence for life as demonstrated by Haitian and United States citizens in the creation and perpetuation of a hospital in Haiti: Cybercast of the Symposium.

For a map of Haiti, see the presentation by the Geography & Map Division of the Library of Congress: Places in the news.

For information about additional resources on Haitian newspapers at the Library of Congress, consult its online catalog (http://catalog.loc.gov). Within the Library of Congress, the Newspaper & Current Periodical Reading Room has an online search facility to discern what newspapers are available for consultation in that reading room: http://www.loc.gov/rr/news/fncr.html.

One of the major aggregators for links to a wide variety of subjects relating to Haiti is the University of Texas' LANIC (http://lanic.utexas.edu/la/cb/haiti/). They provide an up-to-date survey of current and recent news relating to the situation in Haiti cited below at the LANIC NEWSROOM: HAITI. Other news gathering sources throughout the world may also provide important information, for example the BBC in London provides news relating to the Americas which features outstanding events: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/default.stm and Le Monde. Some of sites may require you to register, such as the Washington Post and the Americas section of the New York Times .

The Law Library of the Library of Congress provides links for legal, political, and general information on their Guide to Law Online (http://www.loc.gov/law/guide/haiti.html).
